Can anyone confirm which decade this dress was created? I'm thinking it's from either the 40's or late 70s/early80s ?? There is no label. It is lined. Thanks!

Hi, it looks like a dress made in the style of a 1930s day dress. The construction of the fabric belt and placement of the lace collar are 1930's features, but the belt buckle and lace themselves are newer, from the 80s I think. Either the dress or the fabric look as though it came from the 70s/80s. These would be the age of the materials, it could conceivably have been made at any point after this using vintage materials.

I would think it was made for a stage production.

Thank you, Melanie! I had a feeling it was a later piece, but I wanted confirmation from other sources before selling online. The lack of a tag made me ponder over it for awhile. I do agree that it could very likely be a stage production piece. It's still pretty, nonetheless. Thanks!

You're welcome. I would mention the neck lace in particular looks as though it could be modern. I work in haberdashery - those leaves could have been guipure lace that was divided and then appliqued together to resemble a collar, or it was traditional lace lengths from which the sheer sections were removed.

hmmm... so I'm wondering if I should even list it on Etsy as a "vintage/retro" piece given the information you provided. I don't want to falsely advertise the garment.
