Help me decide which buttons for my Beacon robe.

Go for it, Alice - I'm going for the black buttons too but of course we're not allowed so that's why I was keeping quiet! Glad to hear that I'm not the only one.

The VFG is dedicated to the preservation of vintage fashion so I think we won't be the only ones who prefer authenticity.

a single button a really interesting scene is great.

I agree with you Melanie and do like your idea of keeping originals with robe, but OP refers to changing out buttons rather than a single button. All preservation concerns aside, I still like the visual simplicity of the original buttons against that wonderful pattern.

Personally, if I were to bother to change the button, I would go with a simple button that is closer in coloring to the actual robe. I could see a bakelite swirl like button (black and coral mix)

I could not easily find what I had in my mind's eye...but I did find these on etsy....
unfortunately the 1st one is now a pair of earrings and maybe too red, need something more coral but it has
that slight swirl coloring.

the 2nd is not simple but very "deco" in look.

Love your new robe, Linda.

That's an interesting pattern that I've never seen before from Beacon. The blankets and material were made just down the road from me in Swannanoa, NC. In the early 1930s the Navajo took Beacon to court (and won) over Beacon's use of images and ad copy that seemed to imply that the blankets were made by Indians.

I've written about the company: http://thevintagetraveler.wordpress.com/2010/01/31/beacon-part-iii/

Great blog as usual, Lizzie!!! I actually had a robe very similar to the one you are showing, mine was not in that fabulous looking condition though!

Linda you always have the most interesting items to post. I had a feeling you wouldn't let the original button go far ; ). Kudos. And those Indian head buttons are so perfect!!
