A little date fine tuning please!

I just go this great silk Adolfo set at Elizabeth's Timeless Attire in Lousiville - yes that's a plug. She was closed for 3 months due to a car hitting the fornt of her building - it was a massive mess. She just had her grand reopening and I found this set. Loved it.

It's a nice heavy silk blouse and skirt with fur cuffs. The skirt has a heavy white taffeta liner. Back metal zipper, tiny cobvered buttons. Both pieces are labeled. AND it still has the original sales tag in the blouse! And it is for a Tall woman.

I will tell you the original price at the end of the post...........

Any way - 1962 when he started his label - can you help me refine that date a bit? The 60s aren't my strong suit.

Original Price: $1,050.

i'm thinking 70's also, as the tie neckline was hugely popular, as were the little puffy sleeve caps, the tiny pleats on skirts, and the soft/dusty color palette.

and i must say, 70's typically don't thrill me, but good lord that is one handsomely elegant outfit. LOVE the fur cuffs:drooling22:

Ok my wiegh in ... Yeah,... When looking at this I was taken back,, what a LOVEY dress,,, I would kill for this!

Though I am no expert I think early 70s also,....the neck ties are not 60s at all. unless you get a crazy designer in there who sets the trend. But the neck tie makes me think hands down 69-72 so early 70s is safe.... but who cares the age, this is GORGEUOUS!!!!

The color is even better in person, I haven't gotten it quite right yet.

1969 - 1972 sounds good to me. I was around then, and was working in a very good ladies store by then, but as teenager, I sure wasn't looking at $1000 dresses!

What a spectacular outfit, Hollis! At the risk of sounding dumb, I am going with a bit later than early 70s. I would say it is more likely mid 70s. I did a LOT of sewing throughout the 70s, and worked for the Singer Company from '74 to almost '76. So I sold a lot of patterns and took sewing classes. It seems to me that the puffy sleeve caps were becoming very popular around 1974. I had store-bought dresses & made several with that sleeve style (almost exactly the same at the cap and the same length) around then--of course not with the panache nor the fur! If I recall correctly, the large neck bows/ties came into wide use perhaps even a little bit later.

I agree that is looks 70s but.... I just went on the earlier side because some designers are "ahead" of the times and set the trends and according to the label resourch the label is the 60s label not the 70s so I decided that the 70s cusper is better... But I am very new at this so please do not take my word for it I am only 25 so I did not live theses eras,.. all my ideas are based on book and internet research so I am only as informed as the writer whos information I am reading.... Best of luck!!!

I'm going with the '70s too, but that computer hole-punched price tag makes me wonder if it's closer to the mid '70s than the early '70s. Those long skirts were popular up until the mid '70s I think.

Nicole, your timeframe and mine agree totally--glad to have some confirmation of what I was thinking....

Now that you've weighed in with similar thoughts, I'm pretty sure that my somewhat-educated (LOL!) guess is accurate.

Oh thank you ! I just remembered a 1972ish pattern my sister made that had this skirt shape and the same blouse effect.
