help needed dating organza wedding gown

Hello,

I would love your opinion on the date of this dress. It's made of what seems to be embroidered silk organza. There are tiny mother of pearl buttons down the back. It came with the tulle juliet cap veil and also came with detached sleeves, gauntlet style, which can be slipped on if desired. I saw a picture of the bride wearing the dress. I believe the picture was from the 40s or 50s but am wondering if she could have been wearing an older dress.

I may be missing out on an earlier version of this look I've not seen but open lace, guantlet style sleeves, fitted bodice, frill and button down back all say late 1960's to 70's to me.

The veil looks older but that could have been handed down. There is also the chance it was made from older lace.

I'm not sure, but it's not saying 60s/70s to me. That V waist is a late 40s feature I believe. Interested to hear what others say.

I think its from the Late 40s. My parents married in 48' and she had a dress with similar fit and gauntlets.

I would agree with 40s as well. I have also had similar dress to this with gauntlets dating from the 40s.

My apologies, that's not what I understood from gauntlet sleeves, I was thinking of Guinevere sleeves!

Actually Melanie, so was I! But it didn't fit with the style of the rest, which is why I asked to see them.

Do you think the veil is older than the dress?

We'd need to see closeups (particularly of the flowers, and construction), but from what I can see it looks quite 1920s.

I agree that the veil looks 1920s. The dress 1940s. Perhaps a mother's wedding veil worn for her daughter's wedding.
