Hey guys...hoping you can help, I've hunted etsy & ebay & google and so far no luck. I need 8 black velvet shank back coat buttons size 1" or 1 1/8". Got an *amazing* mint Lilli Ann princess line coat missing all the buttons, brown mohair/wool blend w/ black velvet collar. Thought I'd give it a shot here.

Thanks!!!!

Ang,
Is there any additional fabric in the hem or facing? You could always use it to cover your own buttons, if you didn't mind them being the same fabric as the coat and not the collar. If you wanted to match the collar, black velvet is readily available at fabric stores, if you found a good match you could use it to cover them. It sounds like a lovely coat, good luck with the repairs!

At the vintage fairs I sell at there is what we call 'the button lady'. She sells other items but mainly buttons (all vintage stock) and only at the fairs and not online.

If you're interested I do have an email address. She's a fab lady and very helpful.

She is UK based though, but shipping won't be too much. She'll be at the next fair 6 Dec, so if she does hv what u want then I can always buy them and post them to u if she doesn't want to. No worries if this sounds too complicated lol, just thought I'd mention her. She has quite a following.

Searching for buttons is hard! I can attest. I finally found buttons for my Oleg Cassini coat on line from a friend on a list. I had searched high and low. Ang, I feel your pain.

You can cover your own buttons with velvet. Maybe that will work?

I know you probably wouldn't... but I just gotta say it... no matter how much material is in the hem or facing, please don't cut anything off an older Lilli Ann to cover those buttons ;)

I will keep all my fingers crossed that you find some nice black velvet ones (or, like Pam suggests, buy some "cover-your-own" shanks as well as a little piece of black velvet).

There isn't anywhere to get the velvet from on the coat, and with the black accents covering them w/ the brown mohair would look a little off compared to the black buttons it likely did have to pull in the black from the collar.

I'm so tired from making Thanksgiving dinner I can't think right now but I may just find some black faceted plastic/glass looking ones. Thanks guys!!
