Hi! Can anyone help date this gown?? tagged by iris
pure silk 34 (it's very faded)

has deep plunge neckline, front & back, with drapey lace(reminds me of the lace on Fischer/mermaid gowns, floral & paisley) tiny silk twists @ top of shoulder straps attaching the lace. The waist is high, but not quite empire, w/ satin ribbon belt in the lace, double keyhole back MOP button closure?? love it, but it has me confused:icon_wall: at first i wa thinking 40's, but my gut says, no. :help: thanks in advance, holly

Iris started in 1929 and is still in business today. They have a website (I think it's www.irissilks.com).

I can't see the tag really well with the blurry picture (you might want to get a better shot of that using the macro feature on your camera because buyers really like to see tag shots in lingerie)...but I suspect your beautiful gown could be late 50's or quite possibly even 70's to 80's with the way the bodice fits and the pearly plastic button closure combined with the open keyhole back.

I would call the straps an interlocking twist lace strap.

By the way, I'm kind of in love with that necklace. Are you selling that too?

Thanks ehappy! all input is appreciated. didn't have much luck with the irissilks site, no archive or history info, but.. i googled "vintage silk nightgown by iris" and got this link(http://www.lizziesvintagelinensandthreads.com/clothing-purses/vintage_iris_embroidered_white_l.html) to another nightgown, with the same label, but it's an embroidered cotton lawn ~ says vintage, but no dates:cry:
If I ever decide to sell the necklace I'll let ya have dibs, it's actually a family piece & I've been wearing it alot lately, but ya never know.

That gown in the link also has a Bonwit Teller tag, Boston & New York aside from the Iris tag.

I found a NY Times article dated 1968 that states Bonwit Teller was introducing Iris lingerie.

So, with the association of Iris & Bonwit Teller done in 1968 and if yours is the same Iris tag on the gown in the link then I'd say yes to 70's on yours. It sure is pretty pretty! Good luck with it!

:headbang: Thanks so much, you all rock!! The tag is just like the one from the link, except it has pure silk under by iris, just no Bonwit Teller or other tags. I've tried ten ways to Sunday to get a better pic. of the tag, but it's so faded and my camera/photog. skill with digital tres sucky! They just get worse & worse. I'll prob. try at least once more before I list it in 70's tonight or tomorrow, on ebay. Thanks again for all your help.

Holly
