Help to date hat and describe type

Hi Everyone,

Best wishes to all for the New Year.

Please help to identify the date and type of this hat. It isn't a turban; isn't a pillbox; really I don't know what to call it. There's no designer label, just the Union Made label. The hat is a wonderful taupe & olive velvet & satin with netting.

Technically It think it would have been called a shell hat - like a clam shell that hugs your head... These were made forever -- mid 50s to mid 60s.
