Really not sure what to do with this dress. I'm thinking... late 70's or early 80's???
It's wool, I think, and the sleeves are done in a different material. Almost sweatshirt like with ribbed cuffs. Yes, it appears original.
Neat "V" buttons. Very well constructed with size zipper, snaps and hook & eye closures

Otherwise... I'm blank. I have no idea how to market this. Any suggestions?

Hmmm.... The silhouette on this looks early 80's to me, but most of the construction detailing looks more 70's--the tie at the throat, the pocket, and the side elastic things at the waist.... Could be a crossover? I think your call of late 70s/early 80s sounds pretty good! I might call it a military-inspired piece, with those metal buttons, dark blue color, and that gabardine (or is it?) fabric for the body of the dress.

I do think the body of the dress is gabardine. It's got a fairly heavy hand, though... but it does have those little diagonal lines.

I guess it IS dark blue, huh? LOL! It's SO dark that when looking at it, it really appears almost black! So far I'm putting in the auction that this is extremely dark blue or black.

Thanks for the military angle... I hadn't thought of that. It is rather severe, huh?

Oh.. and there's no elastic. I think what you're seeing is the inner construction-- it's grosgrain ribbon.

The Valentino V people will really like this, I would put logo button in the title, mention silk lining if it has one.. Military Chic would be good key words. A great dress... It is authentic and I have yet to hear a Miss V item being copied, but ya never know! I would go with mid to late 70s on this but I would let the buyer make their assessment on that. I would market it by its label and military inspiration. Also it definately has the look of a blouse and skirt, that may be a selling point....

Michelle-- I hadn't thought to check... but I think the lining actually MAY be silk. It's very satiny-silk, if so. I can't seem to find a place to snip for a burn test, though :-(

Thanks for the advice!

Michelle--
How are the Miss V collectors, price wise? I know the St John gals don't like starting prices too low.... are these gals the same?

Also... would you say that "vintage" is important in the title? I'm having a hard time fitting everything in!!
70's Military Chic Miss V Valentino Logo Buttons Dress

That's all that fits!

I had a dress like this in a navy white houndstooth that I bought at NM in San Diego in 1985/6. I remember it well because it was one of my favorite dresses and I bought it soon after I was married. It had the tie at the neckline as well as the set in waistband with woven inner band. Oh do I wish I still had that dress!

Well, most of the ladies that I have had buy Miss V items from just know the fit, not necesarily collectors, I am not sure if there is a market for that, at least now! But it is a different cut, different style from the Valentino Boutique items, less expensive retail but still quite good quality and cut for a "younger figure" and style sense. I have seen fairl good prices but starting high does not usually get bids, I would start lower, perhaps at a price you would be happy with and go from there. I would not bother with the word vintage, Miss V is all fairly vintage and fairly classic for a "young line"... More then anything I am dating it by the construction although the OliVer valentino pieces were constructed much like this one into the 80s... so I would take Candy's take on the actual date more then I unless it is silk lined.. I THOUGHT the silk lined Miss V's stopped at the late 1970s... was your silk lined Candy?
If you can fit the size in rather then the word 70s... that will be more important then the date.. In my opinion

Good luck to you!!

Michelle

Thanks for all the advice, Michelle!

I took your suggestions on the title and started it at $24.99.

Thanks!
