Help with 1960s fold down collar name please

Hi everyone,

Can you please help? I'm racking my brains trying to remember what this collar type is called: it's a very distinctive '60s style, a long, low, rounded collar that is folded over. I've seen them on tops and dresses.I have the name "bateau collar" in my head but I don't think that's right.

Thank you in anticipation!

Thanks ladies! I'll go with that then :drinking2:

Pretty sure that there was a moment back in 1985 I had a name for it but it seems to be lost in the aeons of time: plus, no saying whether it was true or not. At least this way we're all on the same page!

I'm having trouble with "bateau" for this because I think of bateau or boat neck as straight. However, I looked and I can't find a name for this type of collar, either. I think fold-over rounded collar is closer but not quite it. I do agree it'a a lovely gown!

Thanks Ruth - you're right, that brings up similar examples! Claire, you're also right about it being bias cut. This one sits very flatly - probably as a result of my enthusiastic dry cleaner. Originally the fold may have been softer.

Lovely to see you all, and thank you for your replies - I miss you all terribly and hope to come back once my book is finished. It's due the end of June so we'll see how we go.

I'm loving working with a model: she brings the clothes to life, plus she's fun to dress up. The best part of my week. I'm tempted to go back and reshoot everything that was originally done on a mannequin. This particular dress has a low, square backline with a flat bow and rosette - long, flared skirt. I love the ribbon treatment on the bodice.

Happy festive season to you all too - hope there's a little time off in there so you can spend time with your loved ones.
