Hello all,
Quite a while back (November or so) I posted a query about a 60s dress. The dress, to refresh, is very heavy black wool crepe, lined in silk, hand set zipper, no label. I knew it was 60s, it looked familiar, I found nothing.
While many folks view my post, and many agreed that it was familiar, no id.
A delightful, I will call her Miss M, reader of the VFG board found my query and contacted me.
"It is a Cardin; called a carwash dress, see pic . I will also attach another dress image similar to yours in orange. It is also a Cardin from about 1968. I found another dress last night that looks like a later variation of the carwash dress. I’ll see if I can find it again. Because these dresses are from Cardin’s most important and innovative period as a resigner, many of them are in museums. I believe this dress is one of them.
In the late 60’s, Cardin started the movement to make fashion accessible to people outside of the couture salons. His outside first show was at Printemps in Paris and then he started selling from his salon to buyers from the larger well-established department stores. "
