Help with Christian Dior chapeaux feather hat

Hi everyone!

I am looking for some information on what the stamps might mean on the paper tag of this Christian Dior feather hat. I did hours of research, but I just can't find any more data on what they refer to, and I'm hoping they may correlate to the year, season, or style. I've found a lot of information online, but I know this group is overflowing with hat and milliner knowledge!

The paper tags include multiple codes, but I am curious as to what the number "157" could refer to? (Spring 1957? Maybe? Probably not?) It seems as though 1223 is the identification number for the hat, but the rest of the stamps are my best guess. I'm very curious about the ink rubber stamps and what they could mean or correlate to.

From Google, I have assumed that this was likely purchased at Gimbels or Saks, as both used the "enjoy your beautiful new hat" tag. I also believe it was made in the later 1950s or early 1960s from the fabric tag and comparing designs I have seen, but haven't been able to find it in a catalog or sketch.

Thanks so much in advance! I'm just so happy to have a place to ask questions like these!!

Those numbers are simply store ID numbers, such as the department (as has been suggested), the hat's style, store ID #, a wholesale tracer etc. The hat is not Dior couture and so would not have any numbers indicating a Dior season or line. The hat, as with all Dior "Chapeaux" hats was mass produced as ready to wear here in the USA by one of several hat manufacturers in New York City. Looks to be early 1960s or close to that. It is a rather wild style and I do like it!

Barbara - do you have a date for when Dior Chapeaux began? I swear I read SOMEWHERE (can't remember where) that that line was created in 1963...

I remember it was a newspaper article recounting how the Dior company reorganized itself and how it did business in the U.S. It was either under the direction fo Guy Douvier at Christian Dior New York or with Gaston Bertholet's appointment. It was sometime between 1961 and 1963 - that much I remember, I just can't remember the circumstances of how and why, or exactly when...
