I had a jacket like that. I got it in 1979 (I can remember stuff like that, but I can't remember what I had for dinner last nite). Mine was faux fur, though..
I thought the lining looked a lot earlier that 1970s, but it could have been replaced of course. I typically see that chevron quilted pattern in art deco period outerwear. (Men's tailored evening jackets in particular)
It resembles Astrakhan fabric which is made to look like Astrakhan/Persian Lamb fleece which can made from wool or any fiber that can be used to create the looped or cut pile. It can be seen here in our fabric resource section.
