Hi,

I have several day dresses and after doing some research I'm kind of all over the map on them - 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's?

The style on some seems to contradict the pattern to me.

I don't want you guys to do my work for me, but I'm still learning how to even research stuff so I may have overlooked some info I could have found myself, sorry~

Thanks for your help!!!

Hi Sharon!

I would say they are all shirtwaist dresses, 50s, early to mid 60s, early to mid 60s, 50s. I'm thinking the black and white dress has an added belt, because the original was probably narrow...although this one does look cute! Those 60s ones are shorter, and brighter in their prints. They look crisp as new.

I hope someone corrects me if I'm wrong...I always learn from my mistakes around here!

I agree with Maggie on the dates. The first one might be more 30s/early 40s and would have had a much narrower belt.

Marie Dressler was a 30s and 40s film star who lent her name to some fashions. She was an older, matronly gal who did character roles, often distinctly unglamorous, so any line that featured her name was meant to appeal to the older woman.

Thanks Maggie!

I added the belts to the first and last one. I'm sure they had same fabric belts, tehy have belt loops, but the belts were missing.

They really are in wonderful shape. That's one great thing I find about vintage clothing. Clothes were expected to last more than one season and when reasonably taken care of continue to look nice.

Have a great weekend!

Sharon

Hi Hollis,

Thanks for your input. I did find info on Marie Dressler, although it was film related and no mention of a clothing line.

The wide collars are what made me think earlier than 60s.

l would say all mid to late 50's except for the last one pale blue which is a tad earlier..HTH
