Help with date/company info on this Victorian? bar pin

Picked up this pretty little brooch today, quite possibly jet (it is very lightweight) but I have not done any testing. I haven't been able to find out anything about "S and S". Any guesses as to the age and can anyone offer any company info? I've been googling and it appears to be a Victorian mourning piece, yes?

Thanks so much!

Hi Donna -- It appears to be a pretty jet piece as you've mentioned, with decorative gold or gold fill star set with genuine seed pearls. The catch is likely to be silver as well -- possibly the back plate also. Can you make out the stamp to the left of the S and S logo?
Thanks :)
The stamp to the left of the logo says TRADE, I assumed for trademark.

I agree it's Victorian and with Laura's comments about it, and I also wonder what the stamp on the left reads. Another thought is that Sand. & S.( if there are periods after the Sand and S.) might be short for a longer name beginning with Sand - like Sanders or Sanderson and the second S. might be for Sons. Just guessing but it's a possibility(?) I looked in Rainwater and didn't find the mark but it's very possible it's not American.
