Hi
apologies for the photos, trying to juggle a Ipad over the bed when your small isn't easy,
Could anyone help me dating this blouse please, I think it may be italian as most of my aunts things were, it looks homemade ( very nicely made and its in wonderful condition) it has metal poppers down the front for fastening and the most amazing buttons which feel quite heavy , there is no bust darts but the fabric falls over the chest area beautifully anyway and has a neck tie around 14" long on each side, its made of a silky fabric ( reminds me of very soft curtain fabric) it also looks as if it may have had tiny shoulder pads at one time because of a couple of loose threads in that area but they are not in the blouse now so could have been taken out if there was any ... I'm thinking maybe 40s possibly? Any ideas please?

Any help is much appreciated thankyou in advance

Thankyou it was the metal poppers that confused me , I absolutely love it ..

Thankyou for you help ☺

Can I ask a bit of a silly question if you don't mind , could these be dolman sleeves? Only I have tested the buttons today and they are bakerlite and I found in one of my books today that dolman sleeves were used on late 40s early 50s garments . I'm getting a bit confused , maybe the buttons were added to a much later blouse in the 80s? Its very delicate and doesn't seem as robust as some of the 80s blouses I have if that makes sense the construction seems different ... im a newbie to this so please bear with me :)

Dolman sleeves usually means the sleeve is cut in one piece with the body, so there is no seam. I think there is a seam here? In which case batwing is a better term. The shape can be similar, but the construction is different. But I think occasionally some people use dolman to mean this shape, even if there is seam.

It does look 80s to me too, shape, fabric, and colour. But I'm also confused by the buttons testing as bakelite. If it's home made, it's quite possible the buttons are older than the blouse. Seamstresses tend to have stocks of buttons going back years, or they inherit them.

Thankyou Ruth:) my aunt had lots of handmade clothes ( I have never known one woman to hoard clothes like she did but I'm also glad she did haha) so its very possible that the buttons are something she already had as she also had two massive button jars, the buttons are stunning i like them more than the blouse :) , and this one actually fits me so ill be adding this to my wardrobe.

Thankyou so much for your reply and help, i can move on to one of the other bits now .. i think I have a new hobby!!
