Hey VFG

I'm Cass, Living in Australia. I'm cleaning out my late mothers house and have come across a dress that I'm not sure if its valuable or not, I have done so much googling and research and cant find out too much about it.

I know that it was a gift for my mum many years ago. Brought back to Australia from Italy. Is part of the "For Audrey" Collection made by Andre Laug.

I will post some pictures of the dress. I'd love some info on it or even if someone can point me in the right direction?

Thankyou

I admit I haven't heard the name before, but André Laug is a well-established fashion house, started in 1968: http://www.andrelaug.com/en/about/

However, the "for Audrey" sounds like a licensing deal of some sort, maybe for a boutique or ready to wear label? Maybe late 70s. But let's see what others here think.

Please note that we cannot give any information on value here on the forums.

For Audrey means it was created for Audrey Hepburn (or if we have to be precise - it was created for his ready to wear collection named after her).

"In 1969 Laug concluded the first agreements with foreign buyers, including Elizabeth Arden, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue and Martha Phillips, who introduced the brand in the United States market. Laug became one of Audrey Hepburn reference designers[2] and dedicated to her one of his ready-to-wear lines, the "Audrey"."

In the label s.r.l in Italian is ltd in English and Roma is obviously Rome, city of Italy.

With that said, Andre was a well known name and his elegant vintage pieces are still sought after today. He was trained by Nina Ricci and one of his biggest fans was Jaquelin Kennedy.

If you are not familiar - do some reading about him and I think you might find him fascinating. Lang is definitely not extravagant, his timeless pieces, well defined waist on women's clothes were haute couture for ladies to feel safe and feminine.

I actually adore his style, because having a gown or coat by him means you have something that can be worn in any decade.

Your piece is lovely, it is definitely made after 1970, when he started his line dedicated to Audrey. I cannot truly see the colours but I see gold and black, which wouldn't surprise me because he was the master of black dress with metallic element.

I wish to take a wild guess and say somewhere between 1973-1977, by the colours, but he had more asymmetric pieces in early 1980.

Nonetheless, he was leading designer of his time so you probably will be able to find a lot of experts here or somewhere else.

I just want to say again... beautiful piece.

Thankyou for your response, sorry it took so long for me to reply. Thankyou. Im wonder how to have it cleaned. I would like to sell it as it doesnt fit any of us children and isn't really my style.
