Help with dating a vintage dress.

Hi I am wondering if anyone can help me with dating this dress- I am thinking 1940's but would like to be sure.
it is a linen cotton mix and has no labels but appears to have been professionally made... Thank you .....Steve

Does it only close with the buttons, or is there a side zipper too? If yes, what kind (i.e. metal?)?
