Anyone have any ideas on this beautiful gown and little gold purse?
I'm not sure....
Also, the fabric in the back of the gown is sewn into 2 triangle shapes....
The purse has one zipped compartment inside and the strap is like a coil...

Its really difficult to be specific on the dress, however, the narrow straps, wide cummerbund waist and the fishtail all suggest an early 60s date to me. Is the fabric silk? If so, I think its an Indian silk, and they were popular in the early 60s. I had a very similar dress in pale green satin that was worn by the mother of a barmitzfah'd boy in 1962, it was more or less identical in style and cut.

What a beautiful fabric! That is a classic post poofy 50s design, like Jonathan said, he's seen early 60s like that, I've seen mid 70s like that (usually in bridal/bridesmaid) in my fashion-late geographic area. This era still had home seamstresses making their own stuff. That fishtail on yours really sets it apart, and it looks to fit your model to a tee!

Thanks for everyones help!

Jonathan: I believe its a silk brocade.

Linda: The zipper in the back looks like an older plastic colored one.

Oh, and do coiled purse straps indicate 1970s? Or were they used before then as well?

Hatfeathers: Thanks! Luckily my little sister is an XS size, so anything thats too small for me I can just throw onto her.

I think the coiled strap would probably indicate a more recent purse, although it could still be within the late 60s to 70s. Are there any other indications for date on the purse? Tag? What's the lining and exterior materials?
