Help with dating embroidered jacket

Hi everybody

I was wondering if you could help me with dating this sweet little jacket that I found last summer on a flea market. I have a couple of theories myself about the dating, but keep wondering if that's correct, so I would like to hear some expert opinions. :)

I try to attach some pictures and hope it works for you to see. Let me know if you need more info.

The jacket is made of what I can best describe as a coarse linen or wool fabric. It's unlined and has some netting/tulle in the inner seam of the arm pit. No buttons or snaps. It's short and goes to the waist, the sleeves flare out and it has a loose fit on me but it's possible it was meant to be a little more tight fitted on a bigger person? I like however how it fits me.

I'm sorry, I don't know what to do with the pictures. I keep trying to edit and posting pictures in the attachment, but they don't show up? They are under 1 mb. I will try now in the reply.

Hi chakra - if you have an online photo host, (tinypic, photobucket, flickr, or whatever) you can post the pics here by using basic HTML. Because you aren't a trade member, no links are allowed.

Here's how to post a pic using www dot tiny pic dot com as an example:

*Please note the quotation marks - they're important.*

will show as

Thanks so much Leisa. Sorry for not understanding that.

Judging from the preview I've got the photos right now. I hope some could be interested in looking. All input are very appreciated :) Thanks.

Oh, it's really cool.

I suspect the tulle in the armpit is remnants of a 'dress shield.'

I'm no help with the date as these are still being produces. Very Ethnic / BOHO / Hippie.

It doesn't really *look* like wool, but I can't say without actually feeling it.

The fabric looks like what is used in a lot of garments from South America. I'll see if I can find a similar garment & get the fabric info.

Someone else should be along later today. Sundays are usually slow because everyone is out picking.

Be back in a few.

Thanks Leisa, that's very interesting with the fabric and origin. You're right, it could be a cotton. It feels a little rough under the fingers. When I first bought it I thought it was old, but looking closer at it beginning to think it might be newer, with the simplicity of the ethnic look "confusing" it and making it appear older... I never thought of South America though. :)
