Help with dating...no label.

Mentally Flossed

Hello there! I was hoping that somebody might be able to help me date this piece, there is no label present. It is sheer and has very high slits up either side. It has a very neat, hidden enclosure that begins at the neckline and works it's way around the right breast and down the side. I have been told that it was from the 30's and then again from the 60's. It is an extremely sexy piece and very beautifully made. Any information about the age or possible designers, is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!!!

Hi, I am no expert but the style of your garment makes it look like it was inspired by cheongsam dresses. This style (with the beautiful diagonal hidden closure and mandarin collar) was very popular in the 60's, so my guess would be 60's or even 70's. Again, I'm no expert! Hopefully others will weigh in soon!

Thank you both! My initial thought was 60's - 70's as well and then somebody threw me a curve ball with the 30's and thought I was completely off base. I will take a few close up pic of the enclosure and hemlines. Thanks again!!!

I love the fabric used to make this dress. Since the style is so classic, I would use the fabric as the best clue, and place it in the very late 1960s to early 1970s. Reminds me of some of the textiles seen in Ossie Clark garments. Sort of a take off on Art Nouveau with a Modern twist.

It is really a nice dress.

Ah, I love Ossie Clark!!! Thank you so much! I agree, the fabric is absolutely stunning! It's meticulously made and the enclosure is actually very difficult to notice. Unfortunately it is made for a very petite person and it will not fit me. :(
