Hard to see if it has a waist on the hanger but I'm thinking West Side story style, brought in with a belt. Just looked up the dates, the film was 1961 based on the 1957 show. The colour and ruffle look certainly fit the mood.

I think it appeared longer than it is, you want a plainer belt if possible and it would sit higher, close to the third wide stripe.

Pretty shade of purple!
Just found this blurb about Tachi Castillo. Not sure of veracity, but it's a start:
"Tachi Castillo is related to the well-known silver jewelry making Castillos of Taxco."

I don't think this is as old as 50s.
More likely 60s to 70s, maybe even 80s. It's tricky to date these Mexican tourist and resort items,
and they will use older zippers and findings, that are on hand at times. The hook does show tarnish/rust from age, but that doesn't necessarily mean the garment is way old.

I'm just basing this on travel memories, and natural exposure to Mexican clothing in my local environment.
Perhaps someone will assist in narrowing it down.

There are current and completeds on ebay, and other sites, from various decades, for comparison.
Ribbon jackets, etc.
It appears this brand has been in steady production for a number of decades, and I would guess there is a well-established retail venue in a good area in Taxco, and extended distribution too.

I didn't mean to indicate it was from those period, just that it reminded me of that style.

If I remember correctly, (going back to college spanish lessons!) I think Algodon is cotton so the fabric content would indicate a later dating.

This has the same pintucking and styling as the Lila Bath swim coverup I put somewhere on a thread here. I love your purple dress.

He is a famous Mexican designer from Taxco Mexico and his home is now a hotel.
Quite high end.
Much silver jewelry came from that area.
