Help with identifying vintage Jantzen label

Hi,
I'm new here and want to thank you in advance for your help! I found this sweater at a church rummage sale, and wanted to know if anyone could help me identify when it may have been made. I've looked at the various labels and have not yet found one exactly like this one.

It's a men's pullover sweater, definitely high in wool content (perhaps 100%) and in pretty good vintage condition. It looks like there was another label of some sort below the Jantzen label, but it is no longer there.

I'd like any information I may be able to get so that I can list it for sale. I want to make sure I do the listing correctly and include any pertinent information. Any thoughts on year of manufacture, a price I should list it for, and anything else?

Thanks again for your help - link to Photobucket album is below.

Welcome stormy! :hiya:

Such a classic style is often hard to date, but judging from the label and overall hunch, I am guessing 60s, maybe 70s.

Wait for others to weigh in.

Actually, there is a similar label on our Label directory which is dated to the 60s from a men's cabana outfit. The difference is yours states sportswear for sportsmen and the placement of the Made in USA and where the size is indicated. I would agree with Brenda and say yours would date to late 60s or very early 70s.

Thanks again. I did contact Jantzen, and to my surprise on a Saturday, got an email back telling me that someone named Carol would get back to me as soon as possible! So that will be good. If you'd like I'll come back and let you know what I found out!

Thanks again for all of your help!

That would be great! Once you have a sure date maybe you can post a photo of the label here on our label resource image submission thread.

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that my sweater is from 1969 (just like you all thought!) and is a golf sweater. Here is some of the information I was given:

Your vintage mens Jantzen sweater was produced in 1969 as indicated by the label and style. There may have been a small label under the Jantzen label that said Three Under, a blend of alpaca, mohair and wool. It came in 24 colors.
This would indicate that it is a golf sweater. The full sleeves also indicate this. Because we do not know the content I cannot identify it exactly. It could be a blend and Jantzen produced many of them. The bottom cuff looks like the Orlon Togetherknits, made of 100% Orlon acrylic.

The Sportswear for Sportsmen label indicates it was worn and endorsed by the Jantzen International Sport Club members, a group of prominent sports celebrities including Dave Marr, Don Meridith, Jerry West, Corky Carroll, Frank Gifford, Larry Mahan, Vida Blue, Bobby Hull and more in the 1950s, 60s and 70s.

So, there you have it! :) Thanks again for your help everyone.

It's wonderful you got the "from-the-horse's-mouth" info! That is a very interesting backstory on the Sport Club endorsement. Very nice sweater!

I have an affinity for vintage golfwear and didn't know that Jantzen made golf sweaters, so I will be keeping my out for them from now on. Glad you posted!

Thanks to all of you I contacted Jantzen . . . otherwise I probably wouldn't have been smart enough to do so! I did think she went above and beyond for me with the information and very quickly too. It was actually refreshing to think there was a company out there that would go out of their way to help a consumer!

I did go ahead and get it listed, so we'll see what happens. Unfortunately I'm not getting a lot of views yet. :(

Thanks again everyone for your help, encouragement and words of wisdom! It's very much appreciated!
