Help with my Diane Freis beaded jacket

Hello everyone,
I have a Diane Freis jacket- it is heavily beaded.. Actually the beading is quite exquisite. I need some pointers on the following:
1> How do I store it? I remember reading somewhere that a lot of flapper dresses got destroyed because they were hung. This jacket is also beaded and very heavy. As of now, I have wrapped it up in cotton and kept it flat on the ground.
2>Cleaning it: It says no dry cleaning. Says clean with water. I am a little paranoid about doing that. What do you recommend?
3> The last one just out of curiosity- any idea what this must have cost originally? :-)
Thank you for the help..
regards,

Hi CV,

I think you're doing the right thing with storing - I generally recommend to roll them up and store in a cotton pillow case - you'll probably want to roll it with some fabric so that the sequins and beads don't tangle themselves. It doesn't have to be flat, just keep it away from sun, dust, bugs.

Re: cleaning, I wouldn't clean it if you don't have to, but just follow the instructions. I'd recommend luke warm water and a mild detergent as it just says "water". Dry flat on a towel in the shade.

As far as what it cost, fashion retail hasn't changed much in the last 20-25 years: it's the manufacturing costs that have gone down but retail has stayed similar, so if you think it would retail for (say) $950 today, it was probably something similar then. Hope that helps - it's hard to know what 20 year old garments were sold for originally unless records have been kept.
