Help with one more hat, please.

FYI, the pins were actually rusted to the hat. I managed to remove them to take a look (not without stabbing myself!), but replaced them as they'd been, afterward. The woman who owned the hat died recently at age 90+. Caretaker selling the items said she'd bought nothing new (other than pjs) in decades. Nothing from her place was more recent than early 70s.

Hi,

This really is such a classic style, that specific dating is nearly impossible. It looks very 1950s (any year), but could be early 1960s as well. I suspect the hat may have been custom made to match the lady's suit or coat, and milliners often made custom hatpins for their customers. Women could have a suit made, and ask the dressmaker or tailor for the left over scraps, or purchase a small length of the fabric and take it to their local milliner. Remember when every town had several local milliners? I do!

I did get your other photos, and will reply soon.

Hi,

Amber and Ang, you are both really pretty sharp to date this to say late 40s. Yes, it looks very much like a hat from the late 1940s too, since it is such a classic style. I am going by the look of the lining and interior, and the threads used on the label, and the fabric, which all veer me into the 1950s or early 60s and out of the late 1940s. Of course, I don't have it in hand.

Well, I could just call it "mid-century" and be dead-on accurate ; ). It's in excellent condition, except for the tetanus-inducing pins. Looks brand new really.

Thanks for the comments.
