Help with this folk art 50\'s skirt?

This full skirt is 50's, I think. Side metal zipper. It came out of an estate where everything was 50's or earlier. The cross stitch is hand done. Do the colors or design of this skirt speak of a certain ethnicity? Was this made for a specific celebration or dance? I'm lost.....

That's neat. It almost has a Scandanavian or German (i know not similar) vibe to me but i could be totally off. It doesn't mean that it is. It could equally have been a crossstitch pattern.

Could be Eastern European...it mildly reminds of Ukranian design. On the other hand it could have that square dance thing happening?!

Sorry I can't be of more help!

I just saw an eastern european peasant blouse go sky high. I can't recall exactly how it was worded but they went with something Eastern European peasant. I'll check back on the listing and see.

Definitely get full skirt in there as they are supposed to be big for spring.

It's giving off eastern european vibes to me too... but I'm not really sure of an exact inspiration.

Maybe 'folk-y sampler stitch dirndl' will bring them in??

Hokay. finally found it. The title was 30s Hungarian Embroidered Blouse. Two of them went for $48 to $53. I noticed it as I have a blouse very similar. Their embroidery was straight embroidery rather than cross-stitch.

Bohemian might work well.

I had a black on with a similar design, but the design was printed on rather than embroidered. It was one of the first things I sold on Babylon Mall, and it sold within a day of my listing it.

I've seen quite a few full 50s skirts with a definate folkloric influence. It was one of the many popular motifs of the time.

I like "Bohemian" as well.

Jody, I don't know if it is authentic mid-eastern, but agree with the others
that it has that look. I would definitely use folkloric and bohemian.

My first thought on seeing this was Hungarian and/or Ukranian.

I love it....wish I was skinny!

Thanks!! Its up and running on E-Bay. I started it low because its got some minor issues. We'll see what happens.
