Help with two costume pieces

Hi, I got both of these, (I'll post the shoes in a second thread) at a thrift store while looking for vintage stuff in the Halloween items. There were some other costume/prop-shop pieces too, but I only got these.

First is this men's coat. I imagine it is a vintage piece made to look like a period piece, but I don't know enough to know when it would be emulating. It has a label from the Western Costume Co in LA, and another with some numbers and the name Richard Burton. Do you think he really wore it? That would be fun, and could perhaps even be a pic of him in it, but I did a quick googl search and couldn't see a likely movie of his. Any way, what do you think about it?

I'd be going back for any other vintage costumes there!
The 'double' stamp on the label makes me think this was either a backup jacket, or literally, for a stunt double.

Pinkcoke, I did go back once, and got a cool pair of pants labeled (by a different costume co) "Polish Hussar", and they are very cool, but that was it. I've been sick all month and hardly able to go out, which stinks because it is my favorite time of year to shop, and who knows what I missed there. I mean, what comes next ? Christmas..... Boring!

The distinctive "M" cut of the lapel in this cutaway jacket indicates an early 18th century costume, you can see similar examples in Regency dramas like "Pride and Prejudice". This is one of my favourite eras for menswear.

A quick look at Burton's filmography identified a potential role in "My Cousin Rachel" (1952) and I found this pic which seems to show your jacket.

Lucky you!

Film costumes are often made in multiples, especially if it's a costume worn in many scenes but the "Double" could also mean it was worn by his body double but in that case it might have their name on it, not Mr Burton's.

Seriously Nicole, you are amazing! You found that pic so fast, and I looked and looked! How do you think I could go about finding out more about it? And what do I do with it?

FYI, "doubles" in movies are of two sorts:

1. body/stunt double, who is actually in the film doing scenes the star won't or can't do. these folks would have costumes, but it would be unlikely, as Nicole states, that they would have the star's name instead of the character's name. Nowadays they don't have any names at all, from what I've seen. Just "Western Costume."
2. stand-ins, who are not in the film, but form the "2nd team" to block and rehearse each scene before the "1st team" (the actual actors) come in for their rehearsal and filming. The 2nd team never wears costumes. Just regular clothes.

What I'd do is call Western Costume and ask! Ask to speak with someone who's been there a long time. Millennials will not be helpful here ; ).

The other thing I'd do if I were you, Villa, is go back and find HER costume, and sell it to me ; ).

That is some find, indeed!
