Help with Vintage nighties (now: 60s wig chat)

I have not really sold much lingerie , aside from an edwardian nightie, etc so am really blind here. These are leftovers from an estate and I want to move all the extra things that I have lying around out. They are a nice larger size so that is in their favor.

I'll do better photos once I can figure out a bit more.

The pink one has a union label and its by Avian and my guess is 60s maybe (?) but for all i know it could be yesterday. It looks too long for 60s Would this be a babydoll style? i always picture those much shorter (remember, my gal would be about 5'11" i think if her head was straight.). The straps are sheer and it has a sheer overlay.

The blue one is Vanity Fair, which i thought at first was the light blue older label, but its a lavendar label so i have no clue when it is from...probably more modern right? I might just clip it in the back as it is big for my girl

The big giveaway is that it said "exclusive or decoration" on the back of it, although the trim i believe is antron, so not "brand new"

PS Don't worry about hurting my feelings about my guesses
or the fact of selling them.

Chris

Those are very nice, Chris! I think they are both 60's and be sure to use sheer, nylon and lace, if you have room.

the blue one is very pretty....l agree both 60s....though l dont get much for mine usually on ebay...5-6£...

good luck though..

So I am assuming this is 1965 and later versus 1964 and earlier? what do you think.

And do you vote for blonde or red (for the wig with these) ha ha

Sara, that's okay i don't mind that....i just need to clean some stock out and am featuring something else sheer. Thought about putting them on my site but i want to strike while the iron is hot and i am motivated.

oooooohhhhhhh, very pretty! ...what sizes are they? <giggles>

The top one is *very* mid 60s (and the other is 60sy but couldn't pin that down to a year)... have a picture of a slightly similar Pattie Boyd one from Spring 1964 that's a pink Bri nylon:

Hi Chris,
VERY pretty! i always thought baby doll was "mid- thigh" or shorter, i dont think these are babydoll. both mid 60's, is the Avian a sheer chiffon label with embroidery? the Vanity Fair is a 60s label too i belive.

make sure you put Chiffon in the title of both, chiffon does better than just nylon. and yes.. do "sheer" and lace as well. both good kws. Two layer in the description, "sheer chiffon over nylon" or something like that.

if you can show a shot of each with the skirt pulled as full as it goes, that helps, as sweep seems to add value to a vintage nightgown. to not "misrepresent" i like to show them sweepy and normal and do a picture both ways.

both very pretty! good luck! yvonne

Thanks Yvonne.

Not a huge sweep but I will see what i can do.

Chiffon is a good one, i didn't think of it. The top layer is sheer but the bottom layer is opaque, so don't know if i would misrepresent with sheer because they are not see through.

The Avian label isn't sheer, its white with blue writing. I'll scan it later

Senti i missed your post the first time!!!

maybe the pic didn't show up..that is super@

Can i use that pic??

Sizes are too big with my 32" bust manni...i am measuring them now so shall return with it!

Hee hee Liz...i think so too! her hair was probably the same in the morning as when she went to bed with all the styling products.

I should get a 60s styled wig for my manni. I have seen flips with headbands but that is about it

The hair *is* super fab, but they've cheated by adding a hairpiece in, and if you slept with it like that it would have come apart at the back by the time you got up cos her hair is too short. I still bet it has three cans of hairspray in it though!

Of course you can use the pic. I don't own the copyrite obviously, but if you list that it is from "UK Vanity Fair, April 1964" or that it is an advertisement by "Proper Pride Ltd." that should cover you.

Are you wanting a short wig like that with built in backcombing? When I was in Liverpool I recall us referring to them as "Cilla Wigs" (after Cilla Black), and they did start calling them that on the packaging. Don't know if they would do the same in the US though. They're low maintenance things with built in backcombing and the sides usually curl onto the face, so they're nice and neatly finished off.

Is this what you mean?

The challenge I have is that the best part about my manni is she is not staring right at you, but then any "face framing layers" end up hanging in her face because of her tilted head. I wonder if this would work or would be in her face.

There is another idea i had too..more like the "That Girl" look

This one has a headband so would solve the hair in the face problem but it doesn't really flip.

hmmm, I'm not overly keen on the headband one, it's a bit pointy.

I think I'd cheat and stitch a headband *inside* of a wig I liked and fsten it on that way so you couldn't see it.

Oh my its Miss Kitty lol

You know its funny that in period dramas everyone seemed to have 60s or 70s hair. There was hairspray in the old west.

I really like the fembot...wonder how it will look on my gal!
