Help with washing vintage nylon lingerie?

Hi,
I have a few pieces of nylon lingerie from the 60s and 70s, the latter of which have tags saying they are machine washable in cold water. They had a few stains so I spot-cleaned them, mostly successfully, but a few got water stains. Is this normal, and can I just either machine wash them in cold (inside a pillowcase) and then line dry, or immerse them in the sink and line dry? I'm inexperienced with nylon and welcome any laundering advice -- should've asked before I spot-cleaned! Thanks!

HI Jen,

I always stay cautious, even with nylon. Best to hand wash the item fully immersing it in the sink or bath or bucket, with cold water and mild liquid detergent or a small amount of shampoo.
Make sure you thoroughly rinse things in cold or luke warm water then line dry in the shade.
The other thing that works well with Nylon lingerie I find are 'Baby Wipes', the sensitive skin unscented kind - it's amazing what those wipes can remove..

I wear a vintage nylon tricot petticoat almost every day and due to the quantities, I'm a bit rougher with mine - although I follow Gayle's advice when washing shop stock.

For my wardrobe, I wash them in the machine in a lingerie bag, on the gentle cycle and then hang up to air dry in the bathroom. They damage easily (this would happen less if I handwashed them all, I'm sure) so I try to repair them as I go so the rips don't get worse.

Thank you all. I have Eucalan, that's what I use for my woolens. Never knew it was good for lingerie!
