OK SO I was in my local vintage shop yesterday and the owner had gotten in a vintage floor length green silk lace evening dress. It was a high collar, long sleeve with the big flowing bells sleeve asian inspired. Another gal had seen it first so I missed out. The owner said it was a designer dress from the 50's made for a celebrity benefit in Honolulu. I have googled and googled everything imaginable to try and find another dress that is shaped like this one and for the life of me can not. There has to be something somewhere on this WORLD WIDE WEB .... Can anyone help me find this style of dress? Mahalo !!!!

AHHHHHH

THANK YOU !!!! I called the store owner and shes closed till Tuesday. Maybe she had the era wrong so I'll look 1930's still I think I have seen EVERYTHING asian on the web unless there is one I've missed. Ive been searching now for about 6 hours....

Ok now we are getting somewhere... The owner got my message and called me back. This dress was made in the 50's for Marie Lourd, wife of Jack Lourd of Hawaii 5 0, by a tailor in Hong Kong.
Yes , the Pake Muu is alot like the dress. BUT the dress was very form fitting through the bodice right down to the floor except for a side slit , the arms also fitted till the extreme flair at the end. thank you for the help.

Can you go back and take a picture?

How frustrating to find your perfect dress, and then learn its already sold! :angry22:

The dress was made for Marie in the 50's. Yes hawaii 5 O was in the 60"s however Jack & Marie were already part of the elite in Honolulu way before and gave to charities regularly. After talking to the store owner she told me the other gal passed on the dress BUT that the dress is a size 2. I need a size 4-6 so I'm going to go and take a pic of the dress and put it online so you gals can take a look and maybe someone knows where another is hiding or where I can get a pattern. I can not thank all of you enough for all the input. Tuesday the pic will be up......................Aloha and Mahalo!!!

Aloha, Angel -

I'm not sure that your information you were given about Jack and Marie Lord living in Hawaii in the '50's is correct. Here's a link on WikiPedia about Jack Lord:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Lord

It is correct that the Lords were very supportive of the community and that they left $40 million to charities. I remember seeing her at some events before her death in 2005.

Looking forward to seeing pictures of the dress - and maybe it could be let out enough to fit you - just a thought.

Thanks Linn.....Its hard to filter thru all that is out there and great to actually find some true info from someone who knew them.
Anyways...its all about the dress..... Maybe you will recognize seeing it once upon a time.

Hopefully, from the feedback I have received from all you great gals, the end is near in my quest for the emerald prize I seek!
Until Tuesday..................

I didn't "know" them but certainly knew of them. They were prominent in the community and very generous.

I wish you much success in getting your emerald prize!
