HI! Chanel help please!

I am just not sure about this dress....i cant find that label referenced anywhere.

The dress appears to be polyester. The collar is sewn in by hand.

I've never seen the label and would bet a large sum that it's a fake. Claire

Now ya see...that was my feeling. This dress is not mine...it was bought from a VERY reputable vintage seller. I havent asked what she paid for it....but my feeling was that, never mind the tag...the quality didnt feel right.

I looked at it again. The hand sewing isn't right. If it were Chanel the collar would snap or button in.

The hand sewing is much too amateurish to be couture or rtw.

Claire - are you sure its not from the Chanel Dark Ages, between her death and the Karl Renaissance? I would guess from the style that the dress was c. 1975ish which would be Chanel at its worst moment...

Jonathan, you're right they did some awful stuff in that period as well as some nice copies of earlier designs. This is definitely pretty bad, but quite similar to a suit that's been auctioned off and on for many months.

Back to the label. The only labels I remember from this period in rtw were the Chanel Creations. They died about the time Karl arrived.

I looked at the label again. At the lower right corner and upper left corner, the turned under ends show. This is sloppy workmanship; and I think even during this period at Chanel they would have been more careful. C
