I was fortunate enough to be treated to admission to this wonderful exhibit by my girlfriend who is a fan of vintage clothing and theatrical costumes. I highly recommend seeing this if anyone lives in Southern California or will visit Los Angeles between now and March 2015. It is an exciting multi-media exhibition which includes costumes on mannequins, but more, really emphasizes the role of the costume designer in film-making.

This article will give you a good idea of the feeling of the "show" in person. The exhibit has loads of costumes -- 6 or 7 rooms full; more than I expected. Some are very historic, including Charlie Chaplin's "Tramp" suit, a Carole Lombard gown from "My Man Godfrey," and many more rare ones, like Marilyn's white dress from "The Seven Year Itch." Of course, the finale is Judy Garland's gingham pinafore and 2 pairs of ruby slippers from "The Wizard of Oz." There are many contemporary film costumes mixed in as well.

The exhibit is organized interestingly, for example, one area contains oh, 12 or so Meryl Streep costumes from 12 different films/roles she played and there is a video interview running of Ms. Streep talking about her own costumes. Another area is all superhero costumes, flying from the ceiling or crawling up the wall. Many other creative displays of different styles makes the event quite interesting.

Another fun "trailer" to watch is here which was made by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) at Oscars.org

Oh, and here's a photo of me and my friend outside the entrance (it was Halloween day, so someone's horns were showing!)
