Home from New Orleans and oh this shop!

I just have to share this - We were "on holiday" in New Orleans last week and I had the utmost pleasure to visit this shop - Fleur di Paris on Royal St.

Oh MY Goodness!!!!!!!!! What an eye candy delight!

The shop is all custom millinery and contemporary and courture clothing - all beautiful period styles. The HATS ARE TO DIE 4! Bodies are new but they use abudance of vintage trims. Just rack after rack of big big Edwardian style right on up thru the ages. Expensive tags (compared to what you see around) and worth every single penny & more! Every hat is lined with custom shop/name labels and signed!

Something else that caught my eye on the shop was that the true vintage clothing was in a separate "L" corner area that was Roped Off! You only got to view those pieces with the assistance of a shop aide. Interesting!

The floor sales people were all dressed to the hilt! And complete with a big hat as well. Each had their own business card to offer you too. Very very classy.

Tried to buy a hat box as a trip souvenir & item for the store, but no avail - they only come with the hats.

Since they don't mention any website either .... I guess you just have to visit the store. That shop alone is worth an airline ticket to 'nawlins!

ok....... back to work.......

Sounds very interesting, Barbara, and that you had a great time. I would have loved to work somewhere where i could wear a hat and it not be an oddity.

Did you have to show your special badge to get behind the velvet rope?
As far as the "roped off" vintage area...do you suppose they are just saving them from someone trying to wedge themselves intoa dress that doesn't fit and ripping something to shreds, or did you get the opinion that it was just snooty? And if you got to go back there, how was the condition?

Chris

The shop sounds very interesting. I wish they had a website to visit....for those of us who will probably never visit the city.

I've never been to a store with a roped off section. Kindda elitist.....mustn't let the riff-raff in :P I can understand not wanting merchandise ruined, but if someone is just browsing.....and admiring....and maybe purchasing! ;)

Oh....sounds just yummy!!! I love your "review".

Just a thought...perhaps we should have a "VFG Store Review" section for each area our members live in. That way, when on vacation, we are "in the know" for places to shop!!

My hometown is in the South, so I know exactly what you are talkling about. I love N.O.!

I remember going to the French Quarter and ordering delicious French Toast with powdered sugar sprinkled over the top. Yum! And that deep rich cajun coffee. Hmm, good.

What i coincidence, I just returned from New Orleans this week too. <P>I didn't find the shop you're talking about but I did find several vintage/retro shops where I bought a few things for myself. <P>The prices were much too high for resale though. :(<p>Cat

Oh I love NO. I went there for the first time last year for Ebay Live and I know just the shoope you are talking about. It was very cool.
Seems like all the vintage and retro shoppes were on the other side of town-garden district I believe.
I could live in NO, of course my husband would attest the the fact that I come home from every trip wanting to move.

Hey! My husband is taking me to NO for my 50th birthday in June! Its one of the places I've always wanted to go but never visited.

We are staying in the Garden District, as we are not party animals and thought we might be more comfortable there.

So, what's the scoop? Where is the best shopping? What should I not miss?
