Horse Hide

I've unearthed a few vintage bomber jackets but have never really known how to identify horsehide? Short of a material label, Is there any basic things I should look for to confirm if a jacket is made from horsehide?

My old boyfriend had a leather bomber jacket from WW11 and that was made of horse hide. It was dark brown and incredibly hard wearing, very thick leather, much thicker than cow hide.

So basically, I would notice the difference quite easily?

Well, lets say in my experience its been fairly clear, but my experience is narrow. I was hoping another member might help. Can you add a photo?

From what I understand,the only way to tell is by chemical analysis.Some steerhide can be very thick,very much like horsehide.
