House of Tappé... 57th St not Place Vendome...

We already added a brief biog for this House on the resource, but I thought you'd like to see the dress.

It's got an early talon zipper up front, with a tie over the top (built into the main body of the dress):

Nice yoked shoulders:

Here's the back...

But there's a hitch - there's enough fabric strain in the ties to cause a couple of holes, and there's some funny picks and wear along the front by the zip - shows up 'cos it's satin...

Ah well...

I'm guessing 1942-1946 ish? Or am I out??

That's the problem with satin, especially rayon satin. It looks towards the end of the war to me because of the draping over the hips, c. 1944/45ish

Aha? Thanks for the clarification Jonathan - yes, I normally have rayon crepe or velvet, and that just doesn't usually show up the faults (or have as many) like this.

I'm hoping someone with film noir heroine ambitions will like the poured liquid effect for retro clubwear, despite the flaws there...

Lin, I'm wondering if it had something attached to the neckline (placket?)
which was removed. Does it look like seam holes on each side?
