Housewife dress?

Hi all

Absolutely love this dress - it looks like nothing much on the hanger but great when worn.

Would this be classed as a ‘house’ dress? Or a shirtwaist dress? Or something else?

I’m thinking 70s, but open to correction!

I think it is 80s with those labels. I would call it a shirt dress style. I think it would have meant to be worn to the office. Not a house dress.

I would classify it as a day dress. Shopping, going to a community meeting, voting, etc.

I could see this as late 70s with those care instructions, but the style looks more 80s to me. Some people call these smart day dresses 'secretary dresses', but that's a modern term, it wouldn't have been called that back when it was made.
