How best to hang vintage clothes?

Help! I discovered the joys of vintage about a year ago, so am still learning...

I've already filled up wardrobe space with acid-free boxes... :-) I've a 1930's wardrobe I've been using, but am wondering on the best way to hang stuff up as my collection grows (apart from one 1930's cocktail length velvet dress, everything else is 1940's so not massively delicate). I don't use wire hangers. I'm using those satin padded hangers but am wondering if I should wrap them with acid-free tissue paper - what are people's thoughts please?

Thanks!

Buffering the hard edge of any hanger is a good idea and you can do that by wrapping the bar with tissue paper (cheapest method), or by padding them with polyester batting and covering them with unbleached cotton. I hang cotton dresses and wool suits, but as you collect 1930s you may want to box anything that is bias cut, knit, lightweight silk, or beaded. Rayon and satin evening gowns I hang, but I add loops from the waist to take the weight of the skirt off the shoulders. The reason I hang those is because ironing and steaming can cause more damage than hanging garments. Also, when hanging anything make sure they are stored in a dark closet, or have a dust cloth draped over the rack (old bedsheets are great).
