How do you mix vintage and modern fashion?

I have a lot of trouble finding vint to wear, since I'm about 5" longer in the torso than a normal person, so my vintage is almost always a cardigan or accessory.
I carry a vintage purse everywhere, and frequently have a vint scarf taming my hair.

I wear vintage every day in the shop - but generally go easy on the accessories, it's more about the frock. When going out, I haul out the better vintage and dress head to toe.

For every day I shy away from vintage though, as I don't want to wear them out. It's hard enough to find good stuff in my size and I'm always going through them. So: if I'm not wearing vintage I go accessories - vintage bag, jewellery, probably jacket or coat if it's cold. My style is pretty simple.

I usually choose one vintage piece, either a skirt or a sweater or jacket, and pair it with modern clothing. I used to wear vintage almost everyday, but since being retired I usually do yoga pants and a tee.:BAGUSE:

I just bought for myself a wonderful man's striped silk shirt, probably from the 1920s and much too pretty for a guy! Also a man's cabana set to wear at the beach...

I don't have a lot of vintage that is comfortable to wear too often, so I usually go with purses and scarves also. I love winter because I can always find a darling vintage coat that fits and I almost never wear the same one twice;)

I especially love silk scarves around my hair and neck when I'm on my bike~ they really help soften that "biker chick" look - and they feel wonderful~

I tend to wear more vintage tops than anything else. And I wouldn't say I'm much of a fashion plate! LOL!

I do have a couple vintage dresses that fit me -- but when I put them on to go out, something doesn't seem quite "right"... and I can't quite figure out what doesn't feel right to me.
Maybe it's shoes? Maybe it's the belt? Maybe I just don't like my calves showing?
Plus, so many of them can easily seem too short on me (I'm 5'9") so wear the belt hits me is muy importante. I don't know -- all I DO know is that I often end up taking them off and putting on jeans instead.

I used to carry my vintage purses quite a lot -- and still will now and then -- but most of the time they're much too small for me these days. Plus, I'm afraid I'll hurt them as I'm really hard on my purses!

I do have a couple pieces of vintage jewelry I rotate.

*sigh* I'm such a disappointment to myself as a vintage seller! LOL!

I would like to say 'effortlessly'!! LOL but I agree with much of Kristines post, l'm the same height and with a fluctuating waist...l am more comfortable in the late 40's early 50's dresses...but l rarely find anything that is comfortable....as we are not the same in body shape to start with...

I almost always attach a silk scarf to my handbag.....and neck!! (hence l get sideways glances from some, l think its cos many vintage c70's porn films' leading 'ladies' wear a knotted scar at the neck---well so l'm told!)

I use a bag whenever l can, but its frustrating as the kitchen sink barely fits in, let alone the wallet, makeup, mobile phone and the contents of next doors garden shed!

from a bad mad handbag freak!!

Being a plus size woman I stick mostly to accessories. Thermoset bracelets, necklaces and earrings are one of my favorites to pair with a modern blouse. Hats and shoes are tops on my list and always have been paired with modern suits. Beautiful sweaters with tailored modern pants or jeans. Of course I have two daughters (almost 11 and 10 years old) who are developing their own vintage style. They both love 70s and 80s dresses, skirts and blouses and wear them to school regularly. They match them up with modern shoes as their feet are a bit larger and it works out really well.

I am too girly for my own good. I wear a dress pretty much everyday (this time of year), usually a vintage dress, if not then the accessories for sure... I have short hair so a couple of clip on earrings clipped into the sides is always a fun thing.

I usually try to wear something vintage. I love the 40's jackets or a good sweater with jeans, but on days I don't wear those I will put on the jewelry. Lately I have been converting the old funky 50's-60's dangle earrings from screwbacks to pierced and I always get comments on those. My favorites right now are either the atomic looking ones or the funky shell creations. The deco and forties necklaces are always good with casual attire too. Last year I wore a lot of vintage belts, especially the sterling Mexican ones.

I think silk scarves tied to your bag or around your neck is such a stylish look.
I always have some vintage jewelleryon tooo... Then there is my collection of vintage bags- the majority of which are too small to carry the amount of crap I carry around with me!!
I think neat jackets and bluses also look really cool with skinny jeans for a more modern edge....
how i love vintage...aaahhh...

This winter was brutal and I really got away from even worrying about how I looked in favor of comfort and WARMTH! The shop has 2 walls that are all (older, barely insulated) glass and it was crazy cold all the time. At best I ALWAYS wear a vintage coat, I've got several I can rotate with through the season.

Since it ended (sort of), I've gotten out the spring weight poplin coats in bright colors, and some brighter rayon 40s blouses......I usually wear jeans and flats to work with them as I do a lot of stock schlepping, mannequin maneuvering for pics, etc while there. I used to do a dress & heels but I can't get work done that way!

I went to he Opera last night, 'madame butterfly' and l mixed up new with Vintage, and with regard to this thread, Patrick took a pic of me all glammed up kinda.. (i don't get out much) l hope you can make it out..

My vintage 1940s, wool and mink jacket over an Edina Ronay beaded tunic, (well dress really but l haven't the knees for it) over Betty jackson wide trouser, (which l know l should've shortened a inch!) black kitten heeled LK Bennet pointy toed shoes, (don't be impressed, all new gear from tk maxx) and the vintage bag I bought at my first 'VFG yard-sale', a vintage c1950's patent leather bag, which was so much better than the photo when it arrived and l use it a lot . The vintage Laurel pansy 80's silk scarf, from my 2nd VFG yard-sale, is a fave too, and brought some colour to the ensemble...
