How do you offer a dress when you are unsure of dating?

Hi everyone,

About a week ago I posted a dress that I was unsure of dating on and I received responses that it could have been 30s or it could have been 90s.

I don't want to sell a 30s dress as a 90s dress and I don't want to sell a 90s dress as a 30s dress.

I have called everywhere imaginable in my local area; museums, dry cleaners, fabric stores, estate companies, and I even emailed some places too however I was not able to find anyone who could help me.

So now I am left in a dilemma. I am sitting with this beautiful dress that I do not want to falsely advertise but I want to sell.

Can you all please give me some advice as how I should offer this dress?

Thank you, Caryn

For me personally, I just hold on to it for a while.

Sometimes, new research reveals tidbits and leads to a correct date, others have remained a mystery and are still with me.

Try not to become so obsessed with one item. Move on to the next challenge.

You are all so right. I will just tuck it away and as I learn more at some point I will know. You are good people. ;) I appreciate the excellent guidance.
Thank you, Caryn

Hi Caryn--

Another vote for waiting on things you're unsure about...

It's frustrating at first not to be able to sell something you're excited about, but on the other hand it's also sort of fun to have simultaneous mysteries going, on the pieces you are holding back... you sort of gather clues as your knowledge grows, and sometimes make connections at the most surprising times!

Hi Carrie, You hit the nail on the head. I am just so excited when I buy stuff. I want to show it, sell it, and go buy more. :) You all reigning me in though is just so helpful and ensures good business practices plus WHEN I do make the connections I will be so happy that I did and that I waited. :)

I really love it here. This is a wonderful place. It is almost like going to the mall and the library at the same time. That may sound strange but you or we get to read and learn a bunch of stuff here and you get to see all these wonderful pieces of clothing. I love it so much.

Thank you, Caryn :)
