how do you price your vintage items?

i have spent ages looking at various websites etc looking at the items and trying to get a feel of things and prices etc, but i am still not confident in pricing my items...

up until now i have put things on ebay, and let theem find their own price so to speak, and i have sold my vintage by weight to vintage traders to sell on,

but now i want to go back with my buisness and do what i started it for....my vintage.....lol..

I know this is like saying how long is a peice of string.. but do you look at an items and say... oooo yes i think its worth xxxx now if i do this i am afraid i might be at the two ends of extreme....lol... either too cheap or too dear..

I thinks its the nerves twitching...lol... as i want to sell in a few fairs this year...:insane:

Edit..... when you are putting price labels on the items, do you put the dates of the items too, or just leave it blank

I do lots of surfing when I'm pricing my items but mostly I rely on my own knowledge of vintage.

I base prices on: rarity/condition/desirability.

A piece that's rare but in bad condition would always be marked down.

And by bad condition I mean very good-to-good condition.
IMO Unless you're selling something that's historically important, I don't think it's appropriate to sell items in less than very good condition in a virtual venue (some sellers might disagee).

This is another reason why I'm envious of sellers with b&m shops!

your experience on ebay's very valuable as its a kind of tutorial on "desirabilty"

thanks..... i find with ebay.... things that i think would go for a good price, and then things that i think will fetch a few £££ i get a pleasnt suprise..

I sold an old disney tablecloth just before christmas, and i knew it would fetch a good price, but it sold for £56:o

I must admit most of the things i get through are 'general retro' things... which i think i would price at between £10- £15 does that sound about right?
