How Much Do You Spend on Stock for Your Store?

I'm curious to know what is the average price you'd pay for a dress or coat when you're at an estate sale or thrift shop? For the most part I've found really great prices, but I'm curious to know what others feel is a good price for something.

for example today I popped into this church run thrift shop on my way home--and coats galore! There was a beautiful wool coat with a fur collar to die for--for $7. I couldn't believe it. I also found an old Lord and Taylor 60s dress for $4

Hi -

You'll find that, by and large, prices paid for merchandise aren't something that trade members are willing to discuss here. Since we have many buyers who also frequent these boards, many consider it poor taste to discuss profit & mark-up issues or possible sources.

You're lucky that you can find ANYTHING at thrift stores in your area - my market has been over saturated for so long that I have a better chance of finding vintage tossed into a trash heap on the street than I do at any thrift.

haha..thats funny. i generally don't walk into a thrift store for that very reason, but i was bored and kind of wandered in-and was pleasantly surprised. i'm sure that won't happen again anytime soon!

thanks for the reply..i understand about discussing prices..didn't think about that. ;-)

You MIGHT find vintage (i.e., older than yesterday) at thrifts in Portland, but it'll be frumpy, dumpy, dirty, damaged AND pricey. On one of my RARE visits to a Goodwill, their men's shirts of the hohum variety were 9.99 on up; the Versace shirt I picked off the floor was 69.99....USED. The ugly poly dresses ran $12 to $20. Used shoes were $20 and up.
