After reading a lot of the posts on this great forum, one question that pops out to me is how often do the ladies here wears vintage?,
Apart from the obvious for evening / special occasions do any of you wear vintage every day?.

Do you go as far as wearing a vintage hair style and makeup.
Just would be interesting to here how vintage is worn today.

Hi Paul :)

Although I would love to wear vintage entirely, my height and dress size combination makes it hard for me to find things that fit properly. At 5'9", most women then AND now, aren't my height. Also too, the stuff that I tend to find in my measurements (40"- 41" bust and 32" waist) tend to be made for what they considered at the time shorter "outsized" women so the proportions don't match me either. I think if I were a few inches shorter that I would have more luck finding things that fit.

Ironically, I find more Victorian and Edwardian things that fit me. The proportions that things were made in back then, match me better than later things but of course, antique things are too fragile to wear all the time.

I do have a gorgeous New Look era hourglass coat that suits me to a T that I've been wearing most of winter. Everyone gives me compliments when I wear it and I'm sad now that the warmer weather is coming as I don't want to stop wearing my coat! I also have a pair of 4" high crocodile late 1940's shoes that fit me as well but those are for special occasions as my rubbish back can't handle wearing high heels. I did pick up a beautiful early 1960's black rayon crepe sheath evening dress which is VERY Audry Hepburn in style that also suits me to a T but have yet to wear that anywhere as we never go out!!

My hair is too thick, long and puffy to do anything with except wearing it in a bun (I can't wait to save up enough money to get the Japanese straightening so my hair goes dead straight!!) so I don't bother with vintage hairstyles. The only time I wear my hair in period styles is when I go to Victorian and Edwardian re-enactment events as my hair type suits 19th and early 20th century hairstyles.:headbang:

I wear a lot of vintage -- be it head to toe vintage or selected accessories. I will wear a modern suit but wear vintage shoes and carry a vintage purse. I like my look to be unique and I like it when people ask about my style. :) In LA, it's all about having your own look and I am proud to say I have accomplished that. :) Of course, there's also the ever more compelling "I love fashion; I love clothes; I love to wear as many outfits as possible." :) I might wear vintage makeup to a ball or a period themed event but otherwise vintage makeup techniques only make it to the stage.

I am wearing a Talbot's suit today with vintage YSL jewelry and vintage inspired pointy four inch white heels. :)

I wear quite a bit of 70's polyester stuff. I'm a hippie at heart and I'm sure I was born in the wrong era. As for really going all out with the hair and makeup I only do it on special occasions. When I find a nice 40's or 50's piece that fits me I will pick an event I have to go to within the next year and spend as much time as it takes to find all of the right accesories..hats..purse..jewlz and I'll wear it one time and then sell the dress. Sick huh? Since I deal in vintage I really try and go all out for special events and I try not to wear the same thing twice.

I'm the same! Lots of 60s and 70s wild prints on a daily basis with old flared Levi's, in summer I will wear cotton day dresses (40s 50s 60s) in novelty prints etc. - but my wardrobe is bursting with glamorous evening wear from the 30s and 40s which is destined to be worn once and then sold. Except of course the 40 or so dresses I am convinced I cannot live without and just like to look at as I don't want to 'spoil' them.

I carry lots of vintage purses and have taken to collecting vintage bracelets to wear... but my height and size make most vintage unwearable for me. Like Lei, I'm just too tall.. and apparently broad in the shoulders compared to vintage gals, too!
If I had my way, I'd probably wear mostly 40's fashions. Someday when I can afford my own wares (!!) I might find myself some appropriate undergarments to wear with my preferred fashions ;)

You know that is a pretty good question.
Until this moment I hadn't realized how much vintage i do wear. I found a 70's black and white mod dress that I feel in love with. I wore it to a friend's wedding and just felt so good in it. So I think I have finally found the style of vintage that suits me.
I have several velvet jackets, blouses, purses and shoes that I mix and match with modern also.
I wear jeans alot too, but add colorful shirts and blouses to the jeans.

Today I had some Bannana Republic shorts and a 70's mod blouse that zips up the back and has the big sleeves and wild colored pattern.

I was wonder why I had not seen a lot of vintage been worn. It's me not seeing it, as most probably it's been mixed with modern cloths.
(Apart from special occasion ,which also do not go out much). any way i will have to keep my eyes peels now!.
Thanks Paul
