How old is this hat?

This hat looks like it was newer worn. How old is it?
Another question, is it straw or some other material?

That is a cute hat. I would date it to the mid to late 1950s, possibly to the early 1960s. The material looks to be a synthetic straw, looks like a cello straw which is made of a cellulose or viscose base.
