How to read size amongst all these numbers on 40s peeptoes

The footbed is 9 inches long, which translates to a size 6 according to a chart I have. The string of numbers seems to suggest a size 7. Is a vintage 7 the same as a modern 6? Here are some pics. Thanks much.

I remeasured with a flexible tape instead of the stiff one I used first. Now it measures out to be a 7. Thanks, everybody.

I agree with the 7S size, or Slim, which would be a 7AAA.

People seach for AAA's, as I'm sure you know.

These are FABULOUS shoes!

well l guess thats right if one takes into account the fact that 'old' sizes are a size smaller than now on average....

Sizes have theoretically not changed, however, different manufacturers applied their methods of measurement to sizing slightly differently and the cut of a shoe can make a difference too. Technically a size 7 1940 shoe is the same as a size 7 shoe today.

I wear a 13, and an Italian 13 is a tight fit but an American 13 is fine, so there is some discrepency between manufacturers.
