How To Tell If Something is HAND Embroidered?

I have a vintage Mexican dress from the 60s and someone told me its hand embroidered, but I'd like to be sure. Are there any telltale signs to know if it was indeed done by hand vs. a machine?

The best way is to look at the back, which is where you'll usually see hand worked knots or uneven stitches if the piece is hand done. Machine embroidery will look very even on the back as well as the front.

almost all mexican folk is hand done...and some of it is sooo detailed you wouldn't believe the detail... l have a table cloth with amazing embroidery, with cut out bits and its so detailed, and it covers a table set for12-14....so long....you would think its machine executed but no...

if the back looks almost reversible then its hand done....soemtimes the machine stitched on the reverse is sooo ugly...l shall try and dig out some mexican examples....to post
