How to wear this hat?

Hi everyone!

I am in love with this hat, but have no clue which is the front or the back. When I see it, I see Jane Wyman but not me lol. I cannot figure it out. I have a few research books, but cannot find this hat. The tags, I would assume go in the back?
Also, any info on the era would be appreciated. Im guessing 50s?

Same questions apply to the headband/hat. Thanks so much!

Erin, those are both ADORABLE!!!

the fur headband is 60s. super cute.

the gold one: yes, typically, tags to the back. and from looking at your images, that would seem correct. but if it looks great the other way, it doesn't hurt to show what it looks like on, that way.

let's see what our hat experts say about a date...i can see 50s, but maybe 60s on it, too.

LOVE that color, too!

Thank you, Mary!! I agree, SOO cute! I love the color and it is perfect for fall. I think with the tags in the back, it allows the cute part to frame the face, but I have seen hats with the details in the back as well, so it is a mystery to me!

Thank you for your response!

Thank you, Mary Jane! Thanks for the tips as well! It is in great condition, a few spots on the ribbon, but hardly noticeable. Thanks for the reply!

Oh I love that gold hat! Agree that the the labels go in the back.

I would date it to the 1950s, I see the first half of the decade, although it could be later 50s also. Lucila Mendez made wonderful hats, always good quality and very well designed. I am a big fan of her work. My recollection is that she stopped making hats in the 1950s, but I have no evidence at hand to support that.

I also think the cute little fur (mink?) hat is 1960s.

Thank you, Barbara for the wonderful info! This is the first hat from her that I had seen, but I hope not the last! If all of her hats were this cute, I am on the hunt for more! I would also like to learn a bit more about her and her design history! Thank you for your reply!
