How would you clean this ring around the collar??

I have had this coat for awhile and going back and forth as to how to get the dinginess around the collar out. I'm not sure of the fabric content, it has ridges like a faille. The lining has French landmarks on it. I just don't know if my dry cleaner will be able to lighten it enough. On the other hand, do I dare risk soaking it?? Help!!!

Oooh, I've had that coat's little sister:

I believe the faille is rayon (and the lining probably acetate), and I personally wouldn't dare soak it. If you have a cleaner that knows something about older fabrics and will really go at it, I'm sure it will improve, but I wouldn't expect it to go away. Maybe someone else has dared to soak? Personally, I'd rather have the dry cleaned coat with collar ring than risk it.

Agree with Maggie: I think it's rayon faille and I wouldn't dare soak it either.

Have you tried doing a bit of spot cleaning with a damp cloth? Otherwise, I'd just entrust it to the dry cleaner. Like Maggie, I'd rather have a coat with a mark than one that's damaged.

Do any of you guys ever try lighter fluid? It's essentially what dry cleaning fluid is. You can put a little on a clean white rag and then dab at the stain. My husband was the one who suggested this to me. We've saved ourselves some dry cleaning mess ups by doing some of the spots at home.

Its certainly worth a try before you bring it to a cleaners.
