Howdy doody! Question regarding a Gilbert Adrian.

Hello folks. Long time. I have a quick question I would really appreciate some help on.

I found a Gilbert Adrian which is now listed in Epay, ugh. A prospective prospective buyer emailed asking me to make a quote. I researched her bidding history and she is either a savvy investor with great taste and a pocketbook or a dealer. She (or he) pays top dollar for high end designer vintage, I have also researched Adrian dresses. The only information I have found recently is $990 for an evening dress and $775 for a suit.

To make a long story short, is $450 too much to ask for this dress. Pics are terrible, way too color drenched, but the dress is in really good condition and apparently pretty rare. There are far more Helen Rose, Ceil Chapman's, Suzy Perette's out there than Adrian's that I could find. I am second-guessing the $450 plus I can not seem to add a BIN.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Kelly

Hi,

Without seeing the dress, it is hard to say. And while we don't give pricing evaluations on the VF, we can give you some help in deciding. We would need to see the dress, and the label. Which label it is, can mean a higher final price. Is it Adrian Originals or Adrian Custom? And of course the style, the trim, the rarity of the design, when it was made, etc all are factors.

I tend not to take offers unless I have fully researched something. I would love to see the dress.

Thanks for the info. I think I will let it ride.

The listing is far down. I don't sell on Ebay as much and I received a negative from a buyer for sending the item in a blender box so my ratings are looooowwwwww.

Thanks again, Kelly

Your listing has 1 bid, let it ride... (unless, that one bid happens to be the person who is offering you $$ )

you might want to get ahold of ebay and ask why there are NO Gilbert Adrian items showing up from their search function...

Hello,

I found your dress, first try on Ebay search. I cannot tell much about it from your photos. If it is in as good condition as you say, then it should do well for you. Simple dress, but a very nice color and of course, it IS an Adrian!

Ah, I found your dress - you're ONLY selling it within the U.S. How do you expect to find a top buyer when you limit the clients into your shop? If you only want to sell to U.S. buyers, that's your prerogative, but then don't whine about not getting top dollar, and whether you should take the first offer you get. About half my business is to U.S. buyers - everything else goes to Canada, Australia, England, Italy... Reaching your audience includes making your product physically available to them, not just making up questions to post on forums where you think there are potential AMERICAN buyers lurking. Expand your horizons and learn to ship internationally.

Hmm, thanks for pointing that out. I do sell internationally, always have, so it's a surprise to hear that the auction changed. I appreciate the information; however, what I do not appreciate is the condescending tone. I did not post to whine about not getting top dollar; I posted to get information. Thank you for the reminder as to why I no longer frequent this board or any others.

One more thing, I did not post here to drum up business with American buyers, Jonathan. I posted here with a question as it appeared to be a Q&A forum. My big fat effing mistake. I have known you for years via one forum or another and have purchased from you on at least one occasion, and I do not appreciate the accusation nor do I think I deserve it. I have been out of vintage selling on a constant basis for about three years and was unsure of the market.

I am sorry I offended you but the question irked me because you have been in business a long time and should know the answer to your own question. I also don't approve of sellers who take offers on auction items because I have been on the losing end of that deal many times when something I have bookmarked suddenly disappears. So I wasn't being condescending - I was giving you hell!

I have a question on your dress. I am very interested in it, but what in the world is going with the label? It is sewn over part of the zipper. I just looked and noticed that. That is really, really odd. A label would not be right next to a zipper, much less sewn over part of it. Just wondering.

I also noticed there is some interesting treatment in the seaming, (by the waist?) which is very nice, so it is not as simple as it first looked to me. Your photos are very hard to read.
