HTML gurus: help needed, please!

I'm at my wits' end here; if anyone can help, I'll be 4-ever in your debt.

I'm trying to create anchor links for my website items, to link from my gallery page to a specific item on its page. I haven't felt the need to use them before now because I didn't have that many items on each page, and I wanted folks to scroll through to see the other things on the page. But now that I'm building up (finally!) the inventory on my site and have more than one page in some sections, I'm going to have to start using anchor links. I was gonna wait till my designer gets done revising the design, but he's taking 4-ever, so I'd better get going with this....

Anyhoo, really, I am NOT a total dummy when it comes to coding. But, I'm having a huge problem making these links. I've tried several different online tutorials, but I can't seem to get it "right." I "think" I'm following the directions exactly, but then the links don't work.

Let's say I have a dress on my gallery page, which for dummy purposes I'll call vb_product_gallery, which I want to link to the specific spot on the dress page, dummy name vb_dresses_1. The item number is Dress_123.

How the he!! do I make this link? Many thanks in adance to the web gurus that I know we have here!

I think I know what you're asking.

If I have a measurements section, and I want to link from the top of the page to the measurements section, I use this code

[a href="#measurements"]Measurements[/a] (at the top where I want to link from).

Which links to this, further down on the page [a name="measurements"]

(replacing the [ with < and the ] with >)

I looked it up in my text book from a web design class I took and it say's what Susan says~

Why don't you just have the gallery image direct you to the actual item page? Using anchor tags is actually counter intuitive to the potential buyer. Make them click less to get where they want to go.
