I seem to be posting on here every day, so apologies if you're sick of seeing my stuff, but I have a few more!

First, '50s lace dress, boned bodice and full skirt, metal Aero zip and maker's label Hubert, London. Anyone familiar with this designer? Google isn't being much help on it! Also, the lace overlay curiously hangs shorter than the lining at the front, would this maybe be as a result of an alteration, or intentionally done?

Up next is my Mum's suede jacket from Peter Robinson, she's always thought it was 40sish due to the boxy shape and details (sorry for the crumples, it's been in storage and hasn't been aired/steamed yet), but I think the label is much later.. Anyone clued in on the designer?

Lastly a sweet little handbag with mother of pearl and shell outer detail, I've seen a lot of these and don't think it's earlier that 80s-90s, but was wondering when similar designs originated as it has quite a mid-century or indeed Deco type feel.

I'm doing my first vintage fair tomorrow and am trying to gather all the info I can about my mystery items!

Yes it's a really gorgeous dress, I'm going to display it on my tailors mannequin with a fox fur draped over one shoulder... Lure people over to my pitch with it ;)

don't want to disappoint you, but that magnetic clasp indicates NEW BAG...i've seen these all over the place, and they are often mis-marketed as vintage, when in fact they are made in China and retail for only about $20 USD in many many places. i HAVE seen them bid up (like on ebay) as i say, they'll be misrepresented (either on purpose, or because whoever they bought it from said it was vintage, too....) and selling for quite a bit of money.

it's a cute enough bag, it just isn't real valuable.

Peter Robinson was a department store, with several branches, including Oxford Street and the Strand. It was certainly around in the 40s, but decades either side as well, at least until the 60s. So this is a store label, rather than a designer.

If you google Peter Robinson Department Store there's a lot of info - it's had an interesting history. TopShop began there, John Lewis began his career as a buyer there before opening his own store, and the BBC broadcast from its basement during the war.

1 - I think your lace dress may have shrunk a little when washed - you can see how the acetate lining is all crushed indicating it's been laundered. I now dry clean these because you often end up with different lengths from the different materials (more often it's the lining that shrinks).

2 - Your suede jacket is '60s.

3 - I agree with Mary that your bag is very recent. Such a pity, a lot of these are currently being sold as vintage and for quite high prices but yes, not vintage.

Hey all,

Yes the dress does look to have had some washing issues! I carefully pressed the lining (which is a gorgeous heavy swooshy taffeta) and it looks sooo much better now :)
I thought the bag was 90s at the earliest so there's no disappointment there, I was wondering whether any of that style are vintage and if so, from which era did they originate?

I also agree that the dress has been washed. The lace shrunk more than the acetate, so you get an uneven look. I would give it a nice new hem to even it out and it should be fine. You will want to disclose that it's a new hem in your listing of course.

The others are SPOT ON with the bag. I used to work for a Vietnamese family who would bring these back to sell in the salon each time they would go on holiday to Thailand. They started bringing them home around 2003-ish and they would rave about how they're the new thing, so I don't know if these were even aroun in the 90's; certainly not the early 90's. I also saw alot of them in Hawaii when I was on my honeymoon back in 2005 as well.

It's a crying shame that these are being sold as vintage and people are beliving it :cursing:

Vortex- Yes I think when I have the time I'll even the hem out nicely, it's such a gorge dress so would be really special when fixed!

The sides and inside of the bag are so clearly not of age, I picked it up online for about £3 or something just out of interest so I'll just wack it up on ebay or something now I've given it a good once over! .. Although not listed as vintage of course ;)
