Hush Puppies Boots - - Vintage or recent?

I found these suede boots at the Rose Bowl Flea Market yesterday. I love the mod checkerboard pattern.

Side zipper with YKK tag

The sole says "Hush Puppies Born in 1958"

They remind me of some Peter Max boots that I had in the 1970's, but are these new-ish?

Those are dandy! Are Hush Puppies still being made in Canada? I'd think not, but can't say for sure.

Hush Puppies opened in Canada in December 1989 and were known mostly for making winter boots, such as yours, so they aren't older than the 1990s... I didn't think they were around anymore either but apparently they are still being made up here.
